For accompanying family in Thailand, the key is the Non-Immigrant O Visa (Family/Dependent), for spouses, parents (over 50), or unmarried children (under 20) of workers/students, requiring proof of relationship and the main family member’s status, with an initial 90-day stay and yearly extensions at Immigration after arrival; parents accompanying children studying can also get a Guardian Visa (Non-O), needing school letters and financial proof.
For Spouses & Immediate Family (Non-O Visa)
- Eligibility: Spouses, unmarried children (under 20), or parents (age 50+) of a foreigner working or studying in Thailand.
- Initial Visa: Apply at a Thai Embassy/Consulate outside Thailand for a 90-day single-entry Non-Immigrant O visa.
- Extension in Thailand: Once in Thailand, apply at the Immigration Bureau for an extension, often up to one year, requiring proof of relationship (marriage/birth certs), the family member's valid work permit/student status, and financial proof (bank balance/income).
