Thai Notarisation Service

In Thailand, “Notary Public” services are performed by Notarial Services Attorneys. Unlike many other countries, Thailand does not have state-commissioned notaries; instead, the Lawyers Council of Thailand licenses qualified lawyers to provide these services. We can arrange these services as required.

Common Notarisation Services

  • Signature Authentication: Witnessing and verifying the authenticity of signatures on legal documents.
  • Certified True Copies: Officially certifying photocopies of original documents like passports, IDs, and educational certificates.
  • Administering Oaths: Witnessing sworn statements, affidavits, and affirmations.
  • Power of Attorney: Certifying documents that authorize one person to act on behalf of another.
  • Translated Documents: Many notary offices also provide certified translations (e.g., Thai to English) and notarise them for official use.

Key Considerations

  • Legalisation vs. Notarisation: For documents to be used internationally, a lawyer’s notarisation is often just the first step. You may also need legalisation from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) or relevant embassies, as Thailand is not a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention.
  • In-Person Requirements: For signature verification, you must generally appear in person with your original passport or ID.
  • Appointment Needed: Most reputable firms require you to book an appointment beforehand to ensure a licensed Notarial Services Attorney is available.
